Default Skill points want some love! Skill acquisition idea.

Aaaaaight, now....we know that every 15k Exp we gain a skill point. You have skills to buy, consumables to craft and....pretty much like nothing else.

Now, you spend 1 skill point + 1 Platinum Ingot to gain a "normal skill".

Wouldn't be actually better to give players the change to use more skill points to acquire skills without spending that Platinum Ingot? Ok, it's a quite cheap idea, but I remember that when I started playing I had quite a bit of troubles getting all skills I wanted because of that gold requirement....now, the thing would work as follows:

1 Skill = 10 skill points.

Would be quite fair in my opinion; this could be done with elite skills as well, like I don't know, 30 skill points per elite skills, and why not 50. It's just a way to spend those skill points faster (they don't annoy anyone where they are, but still...). I don't seriously think about getting an elite skill for a big amount of skill points, the QQ would be so big I can't even imagin, but I think that the normal skill point thing should be added. Just to be sure no one misunderstands, you would still have the option to pay the gold amount + 1 skill points, it's up to the player at that point.

What do you think?

I like the idea, although 10 seems a little excessive. I think 5 would be good.

Usually i'd buy tomes, but if it's a monk/dervish/ritualist skill i'm really left no choice than to go to a skill trainer and shell out 1k for a skill. Kinda sucks.

Sounds alright, but not 10. That means it'd take 150,000 XP to get 1 Skill, which would take longer than farming the gold!

[Edit] Confused. Lol.

I agree that it shouldn't cost quite 10, because then newer players would be out of luck when it came to getting new skills. 3-5 seems like a good number to me.

And 1 platinum a skill does put a lot of stress on the wallet...

I don't think my mesmer will ever achieve her dream of having every skill. ;-;

Very good suggestion. Skill points should have another use. PvE characters requiring grind for tomes, SP/XP and gold to unlock skills is too limited. I also think Elite skills should be like regular skills and be purchaseable (1 SP + 2 Platinum) and does not count towards Elite cap title. The current prices for Elite tomes by farmers is a joke. ANet preaches balance and no grind, but PvE chars are at a disadvantage due to these current skill acquisition issues. I think additional ways to obtain skills would be great.

Tumatae, your 2cents didn't add anything to the discussion. You stating your opinion is fine, but don't need to mock these type of discussion topics. Some grind should be required no matter what to obtain skills even if they were previously unlocked, but easing the process with several alternative ways would only make the game more enjoyable. These kinds of suggestion sometimes are for the better. Inflexible system doesn't help anyone, especially the players.

I don't think there is anything wrong. If, for example, you want to buy all the skills or are capping all the elites, you will find every skill point counts!

Thats why in the beginning of the game, you do quests for skills. Buying skills you only need. Beside 1k per skill isn't that much at all considering every single build only have 8 skill slots anyway (max 8k no question.)

/notsign

Btw skills point can be used for consumable items. Go make and sell each set in DoA for 8k each (assuming you buy all the material straight from trader you still make the profit of 900g per set.) Thanks!

I have tons of skill points but I'm not going to spend 1sp and 1plat when I know regular tomes are common and cheaper.

You really don't need to get all the skills. And if for some reason you want to, you should be able to cough up the 1k.

As I stated, I am suggesting different ways to use skill points (to actually get skills with some pocket relief) over the choices you already have. Furthermore I guess you don't use just one build (I personally got saved like 100 warrior templates....and it's all different builds), so you are quite surely gonna spend more than 8k. Keep the suggestion river incoming

I never had a problem with having enough gold to buy skills, and the only time I had a shortage of skill points was when going for Legendary Skill Hunter.

I don't see need to change things as they are, even though I do have an excess of skill points at the moment. I'm thinking of using them for consumables, possibly to sell.

This would be nice. Of course I spend a bit on consumables and all, but I still usually have over a hundred stockpiled, and I'd gladly give them up to get more skills.

signed.. one point of skill receiving fail from the start on ...

ever paying 1 Platin for just 1 skill was ever too much.

And those Consumeables of EotN were no big help in decreasign really usefully all those unused SP's

There should be really a way for the player, to consume more SP for a Skill, to have not to pay the 1 Platin, or just to reduce the cost of 1 Platin to 100g
-----------

Also it was from the begin on a failure, to let the playersa to be unable to buy with SP Elite Skills ...

god, there are now also Elite Skill Tomes, with that you can get those Skills for free, when you have them already unlocked through a bit of playing PvP to get enough Balth Points for Unlock...

The game should also receive now a way for players to use up bigger amounts of SP to get Elite Skills without hunting bosses of them or without getting lucky in drops, or without havign to buy from other players tomes -.- to speed up a bit the time effort of gaining elite skills for a character.

There should exist in certain towns some special "Great Master" NPC's which would exist for each profession - so 10 NPC's ...
They would give a player of the fitting main/secondary profession quests, which the players would have to fulfill, before those Great Masters would accept to teach you their Elite-Skills for a certain cost of SP.

Say you have to pay then 10 SP per Elite Skill. The Game has over 300 Elite Skills, this would mean, you would need per character over 3000 SP to unlock all Elites for a Character by this way ? plus the time needed to fulfill all required quests, before the Grand Master NPOC will accept your character as his/her pupil

3000 SP is way enough effort for this for free Elite Skills and equivalent to the effort of hunting 300+ bosses with Signets and paying ca. 300+ Platin, or buying/collecting 300+ tomes by monsterdrops/other players. This way costs even way more, then hunting all the bosses by yourself with Signets ... up to around ca. 1000-1500+Platin, if you make all alone by tomes.

Players would receive by this way finally a good use for SP and a 3rd choice of how to collect Elite Skills, which would be most best for casual non rich players.

This point of paying 1 Platin for 1 Skills was from the begin on AGAINST the "Skill>Time" thery... because players with more time in GW simple have more money > so more skills for they characters ready to use ...

The system of receiving skills as quest rewards was the best and should have never changed with factions >.<

If tomes wouldn't be expensive even PvE would be unbalanced....

I'd like to get my pve ranger and warrior pve ready tho, so if its free, I just might do it. (Even though all the shields and bows and stuff are expensive...)
